Las Coloradas are located within a private area that is property of the Salinera de Yucatán. Even though access is allowed, swimming is not. Firstly, because the production of salt is affected if the water gets contaminated; and secondly, because of the high concentration of minerals and water temperature.
You can get there from Mérida or if you are in Río Lagartos the trip will be shorter, just 20 minutes away.
