Casa Montejo 495 Museum is located in the emblematic Paseo Montejo Avenue in the city of Mérida, Yucatán. It is considered an architectural landmark, designed by the award-winning French architect Gustave Umbdenstock 110 years ago, it keeps its original design and décor. Currently, the house is owned by the Barbachano family. “Joie de Vivre” (joy of living), is the French expression that best defines Montejo 495, with its beautiful architecture, delicate stuccos, colorful stained-glasses and 16 majestic one-piece columns of Carrara marble. Watching those columns you can imagine how complicated was to transport and install such pieces of art in the early 20th Century. The original décor of the house includes Chinese, Japanese, and of course French chinaware. Inside, you can admire musical instruments, paintings and pictures of the owning family. Do not miss the opportunity of feeling the indoor elegance of one of the most famous and emblematic twin houses embellishing the beautiful Paseo Montejo Avenue in Mérida.
Recommendation for tourists: Face mask use is mandatory, you are not allowed to enter with bags, suitcases, packages or backpacks. Stiletto heels are not allowed. Pets cannot enter the museum, but you can leave them outside.
