Janal Pixán, also known as "food of the souls," is the celebration in which food is offered to the souls of the faithful departed in Yucatán. For the Maya people, the month of November is a time of respect and celebration, as throughout the year, people look forward to receiving their loved ones who are no longer with them. In this sense, from October 30th to November 30th, various activities are carried out to pay homage to the faithful departed, such as prayers, altars, the traditional pib, among others. Begin this experience at the Tekit cemetery, where you can learn about some of the Janal Pixán customs of the Yucatecan people. Continue the tour by visiting and learning how some families in Tekit celebrate the Day of the Dead. Before lunch, you will have the opportunity to see two types of altars, one dedicated to children and one for adults, and you will also learn about the importance of offerings for each one. You can taste traditional dishes, typical sweets, and seasonal fruits with which families usually receive their faithful departed. To end the experience, you will visit a cenote in which you can relax and continue learning about the community.
