Balché is an ancestral beverage originating from pre-Hispanic times, considered the sacred wine of the Mayans. In Maní, along with Mrs. María Cruz, you will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of this drink in Mayan culture and observe and participate in its preparation process. The process involves cutting the bark of the balché tree, soaking it in water to clean it, and then transferring it to a container with clean water, adding cinnamon, star anise, and cooking it over the fire. After removing it from the fire, melipona honey is added to sweeten the drink, and after a few minutes, it will be ready to taste.
