Xcanché cenote is located 1.8 miles away from Ek Balam, and just few steps away from the archeological site, in the middle of the rainforest. A beautiful semi-open cenote, accessible from the entrance of the look-out, thanks to a .9 miles pathway that can be toured either walking or riding an individual bike or a “tri-bike” for two people. Both can be rented on-site.

The cenote has a water mirror of around 131 ft of diameter, where you can relax with a refreshing swim or perform activities like rappel and zip-lining. Besides, on one side, the look-out has a palapa with hammocks to provide a resting and relaxing time on site, as well as a restaurant with traditional cooks.

This experience is ideally complemented with a visit to the Ek Balam archeological site with its majestic pyramid named Acropolis and its ceremonial pre-Hispanic buildings, ball game and the wall surrounding it.

Celestún is a fishing village located west to Mérida, approximately one hour away. It is located within the natural reserve classified as Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve, a feeding place of the pink flamingo who for several months a year stays within the estuary, which runs parallel to the Gulf of Mexico Sea. The richness of the recovered mangroves make of this reserve an unparalleled and special place. You can also delight your palate with its delicious local cuisine.

The tour in canoe consists in going through a series of natural channels of salted water, interconnected with cenotes and fresh water ponds. Each canoe has capacity for up to 3 people, and is propelled manually with a wood. Based in a colonial house downtown, Filux Lab takes advantage of the place encouraging cultural exchange among artists, experts, and different kinds of public, including tourists that like different experiences.

This 2021 you can see the exhibition of “Acuíferos Oníricos” (Surreal Aquifers), from which the following art installations are outstanding: “cuenta regresiva” (countdown), “monocromo” (monochrome), and “manantial” (spring), showing the different states of water (cenote, swamp), highlighting its importance for human beings, all these combining sight, sound, and light involving visitors is a completely different experience, rewarding, and highly sensorial.

Melipona bee honey was used for medicinal and nutritional purposes, as well as a sweetener. In Maní, Yucatán, people perform rituals like the “U Jaanli kab” (the food for bees), and the “U jeets luumil kab” (the ideal conditions for honey production), which are firsts to favor good weather and good blooming period in the field, as well as for the coming honey harvest.

Cultural survival of the use of products from the bees without a sting among Maní population is firmly underpinned on its participation and management of indigenous herbal medicine, and above all for the participation of women in this activity. Melipona bees without sting represent “environmental health” for the ecosystems of the Maní population, as they actively participate in the pollination process of most flowering plants.

Casa Montejo 495 Museum is located in the emblematic Paseo Montejo Avenue in the city of Mérida, Yucatán. It is considered an architectural landmark, designed by the award-winning French architect Gustave Umbdenstock 110 years ago, it keeps its original design and décor. Currently, the house is owned by the Barbachano family. “Joie de Vivre” (joy of living), is the French expression that best defines Montejo 495, with its beautiful architecture, delicate stuccos, colorful stained-glasses and 16 majestic one-piece columns of Carrara marble. Watching those columns you can imagine how complicated was to transport and install such pieces of art in the early 20th Century. The original décor of the house includes Chinese, Japanese, and of course French chinaware. Inside, you can admire musical instruments, paintings and pictures of the owning family. Do not miss the opportunity of feeling the indoor elegance of one of the most famous and emblematic twin houses embellishing the beautiful Paseo Montejo Avenue in Mérida.

Recommendation for tourists: Face mask use is mandatory, you are not allowed to enter with bags, suitcases, packages or backpacks. Stiletto heels are not allowed. Pets cannot enter the museum, but you can leave them outside.
