The “Vaquería” makes us remember the ancient “village festivities” of the 17th Century, which took place in early livestock rooms, where the cattle shoeing celebration was framed by folk dances and festivities summoned by the landowner. One of the most expected dances was precisely the “Vaquería”, where cowboys and their wifes participated. This tradition is recreated each Monday with a program of traditional dances like “La Angaripola” or the huachapeo over wooden boxes or “almudes”. Live music, in charge of the Jaranera Orchestra of the Mérida Town Hall, creates a special festive atmosphere.
