This atelier is formed by an artisan family, who make high quality archeological replicas of Mayan art in stone, jade, and clay, using pre-Hispanic techniques. Each member of this team has a specialty: Rodrigo Martín sculpts; Julián makes ceramic jars, plates, and pots rotate in the wheel; and Patricia Martín paints the intricated stories of Mayan life and ritual on the ceramics.

Walk around the atelier and be astonished by the composition of shades and colors outstanding on each piece. You will see jars, plates, pots, statuettes, urns, censers, among many other items. Go on an adventure in the so-called Sultana de la Sierra, Tekax; located 1 hour and 15 minutes from Mérida on the federal freeway that goes to Chetumal, heading towards the Puuc Route. A magnific experience to visit this place is an ATV night tour.

Start this experience visiting the atelier of the artisan Aureliano Pool Canché, who after being a tailor for more than 40 years, he decided to become an artisan. He stands out for making little Mayan huts, which are an important symbol of the Mayan housing. The atelier is full of history, there, you can admire a scale prototype of the Mayan hut of this artisan, he will tell you about the house’s features and how is daily life in there.

Nowadays, he adapted his current house to have a Mayan courtyard with the objective of showing part of the Mayan culture and the work he has been doing, now, there is no space inside his house where you cannot see a handicraft, because, even though the little Mayan huts are his main attraction, you can also see different pieces of art in papier mâché, paintings, and different crafts, and handiworks.

Don Aureliano is proud of being Maya, he continues speaking his language and performs his traditions, which have provided him with wonderful opportunities like being the leading part of a TV series and providing consultancies about the Mayan language.
