The Xtampú Saltworks is a pink paradise located in the Emerald Coast, between the Port of Telchac and the municipality of Dzemul. The stunning pink waters acquire this coloration due to high concentrations of salt, with varying shades in different areas. Explore the Mayan saltworks and observe the salt ponds, which are a perfect place to learn about the traditional process of salt cultivation and harvesting in the region, dating back to the time of the ancient Mayan ancestors. In the 20th century, this practice thrived in the coastal area, in what is now called the Pink Lagoon. In the lagoon, you can enjoy an exfoliation activity, and while in the salt ponds, you might even spot flamingos in the distance. After the tour and learning about the complete process of salt and its importance in Yucatecan cuisine, you will visit the Xcambó Archaeological Zone, which was once one of the most important trading points on the coast during the Early Classic period. The next stop is one of the most beautiful churches in the Yucatan state, the Church of Santa Ana in Dzemul, known for its finely carved quarry facade with floral reliefs and geometric motifs. Then, you will visit a living henequen hacienda, where you will learn about the henequen process and explore the old mansion to discover the history of the hacienda. Finally, you will visit the Tumben Há tourist center, where you can enjoy a delicious regional dish like Poc Chuc. Don't miss out on this incredible experience just an hour away from Mérida.
