Cuban bread originated in the municipality of Tizimín in 1960 under the guidance of Mr. Romualdo Mena, a traditional baker and the main creator of this bread. Don Romualdo is the one who gave the bread its name, and there are two theories regarding its origin. The first one is that one day, while he was at the dock in El Cuyo, he saw the lights of Cuba from there. The second theory is that he related the skin colour of Cuban women and men to the colour of his bread, which he then replicated. Currently, "La Mejor" bakery, managed by his grandson, has preserved his grandfather's legacy. This delicious bread, known for its special flavour and fluffy consistency, has managed to cross borders and take its fantastic taste to the European continent. So, on your next visit to the municipality of Tizimín, don't forget to taste this delicious Cuban bread.
