“Abuelo Juan Cob Medicina Ancestral” is a center for the development of indigenous medicine located in the municipality of Yaxcabá. Their activities take place within an Environmental Management Unit (UMA), and one of the main objectives of this project is conservation and extractive use. They manage various types of activities, but the gastronomic activity involves a tour of the organic orchard and botanical garden, which includes different plants used for the preparation of medicines, as well as for the creation of dishes and beverages. Some of these plants include chaya, kat cucumber, caimito, black sapote (ta'uch), soursop, saramuyo, guava, gooseberry, nance, chile maax, chives, and annatto, among others. They also cultivate traditional crops in their milpa. Additionally, depending on availability, visitors can taste beverages such as balché wine or detoxifying and refreshing teas made from various plants. Visit this space to connect with nature and yourself while learning about some of Yucatán's representative fruits and plants.
