Micaela Mar y Leña Restaurant opened its doors at the end of 2018 under the direction of Sommelier Alberto Nacif and Chef Vidal Elías. This happened after they found inspiration in a recipe book from an antique store. After further investigation and using magical realism, they reconstructed the story of a family's nanny during the Porfiriato era. The nanny's name was Micaela, and she took care of the family's children while delighting their taste buds with the great flavours she had developed over the years. The family's father could easily tell when it wasn't Micaela who had cooked the day's meal. So the family's youngest daughter, Marion, decided to teach her nanny how to read and write so that she could record her recipes forever. Thus, the idea of recreating a kitchen that pampers and indulges all its guests was born. One of the dishes that emphasizes Yucatecan cuisine is the Peninsula shrimp tacos, which consist of a pair of breaded shrimp tacos, each served in a tortilla with a copy, topped with black recado mayonnaise and served with pickled white onion, cucumber petals, cilantro sprouts, fried leek, and a roasted lime.
