Preparing "Caballero Pobre" is a way of using up the leftover bread in the house. The main ingredients are French bread loaves and a syrupy mixture made with vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar. To prepare it, the loaf is cut diagonally to make it elongated, soaked in a mixture of regular milk, condensed milk, and vanilla; then it is battered with egg, fried, and arranged in a baking dish to be coated with syrup, covered with raisins and almonds (optional), and left in the refrigerator to serve the dessert cold.
