These colourful and soft square-shaped marshmallows, which come in packs of three, are colloquially known as "baby bums" or "old lady's buttocks" by the locals in the region. They are a traditional sweet from the state of Yucatán, with Spanish influence in their preparation methods, French-inspired techniques, and a mix of Maya flavours and customs that can be observed and enjoyed throughout the year. These sweets are mainly placed during Janal Pixán (food for the souls) and on Yucatecan candy tables, where they are a must-have. Today, they are among the favourite sweets of the Yucatecan people and have been tempting children, youth, and adults for generations due to their vibrant colours, delicious taste, and affordable price, which will undoubtedly conquer you. You can find them in downtown Mérida, the market, and the surrounding areas.
