The Múul Meyaj Collective offers high-quality artisanal products that are free of chemicals. They are committed to preserving the traditions, customs, and values of past generations. One of their products is the tortillas al comal (tortillas on the griddle), made from native corn. The corn is nixtamalized using traditional techniques with firewood, ground, and then hand-shaped into tortillas and cooked on the griddle. The ingredients added to each tortilla come from different communities; for example, chaya comes from the Oxcutzcab orchards, pipián from the town of Timucuy, mole with sesame seeds from Acanceh, papadzul from Mérida, blue corn from Chacsinkín, and relleno negro from Ticul. Each of these ingredients is added or combined with the masa (dough) and transformed into artisanal tortillas with local flavours. They are sold at the Múul Meyaj store located in the Santa Ana neighbourhood in Mérida, as well as in gastronomic and community tourism experiences, eco-stores, and conscious restaurants. This culinary experience allows you to explore ancestral and local dishes through tortillas, while also consuming agro-ecological products that support the local economy.
